Dr. Fritz Gechter, pianist
A native of Seattle, Washington, pianist Dr. Fritz Gechter has appeared as both soloist and collaborative artist in the U.S. and abroad, appearing with such ensembles as the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, the Omaha Municipal Orchestra, The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra and The McAllen Symphonic Band. He made his European debut collaborating with his wife, Suzanne Ramo, soprano, at Kloster Andechs, near Munich, Germany and in 2007 he debuted in Taiwan in recital at Aletheia University. Dr. Gechter was invited as a guest artist to perform in the 2010 Alfredo Saint Malo Music Festival in Panama City, Panama, and has been recently invited to perform a solo recital in Wetzikon, Switzerland in July, 2015.
Residing in Laredo, Texas, Dr. Gechter is Associate Professor of Music & Piano in the Department of Fine & Performing Arts at Texas A&M International University where he teaches piano, class piano, and music theory. He also directs the University’s Young Pianists Program for secondary school students and adults. His dedication to teaching excellence was rewarded when he received Teacher of the Year from the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences for 2005-06. In addition to his regular teaching assignments, Dr. Gechter launched TAMIU’s Steinway Series, and has spearheaded student travel abroad programs within the department by teaching a summer course in Salzburg, Austria, and accompanying faculty to Aletheia University in Taiwan.
Dr. Gechter received his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Central Washington University and his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance from The University of Texas at Austin under the tutelage of Gregory Allen.

Guest Artists- pianist Sasha Burdin, clarinetist Thiago Ancelmo, and violinist Andrew Uhe. (from left to right)

Sasha Burdin is a Russian pianist, chamber musician, and piano teacher. He has performed in Russia, Europe, Israel, and the United States. He now pursues DMA in Piano Performance at the University of Iowa under the tutelage of Dr. Uriel Tsachor. Mr Burdin serves as a piano faculty at Iowa Wesleyan College and at Indian Hills Community College. In 2014 Mr. Burdin has awarded a Piano Fellowship at Tanglewood Music Center at Lenox, Ma. During 2013-2014 season Sasha participated in Iowa-based Ephawk Quartet, with the focus on performance of Quartet for the end of time by O.Messiaen. During the 2012-2013 season, Mr. Burdin served as a principal pianist for the University of Iowa's touring Center for New Music performing chamber works such as Gerard Grisey's Talea, Laura Schwendinger's "C’e la luna questa sera?", and John Aylward's Functions of Consciousness. Burdin’s achievements include Virginia Marks Collaborative Piano Award in the 43rd Competition in Music Performance BGSU in 2009, Sarah Lahat Second Prize for the leading interpretation of a specially commissioned work by Israeli Composer, Sde Boker, Israel in 2007.
Thiago Ancelmo
Born in Brazil, Thiago obtained his Master degree at the Hochschule für Musik der Stadt Basel, where he graduated with distinction under guidance of the renowned clarinetist François Benda. During his studies in Switzerland he received a scholarship by Ruth und Hans Rapp Foundation.
He was awarded and finalist in many competitions, such: Jovens Interpretes do Centro Cultural de São Paulo (2003), Jovens Solistas da Orquestra Experimental de Repertório (2005 and 2006), Jovens Talentos Brasileiros (2007), International Clarinet Competition in Krsko ( Slovenia, 2008), Zurich Opera House Orchestra Academy (2009).
Thiago has been acting intensely with different chamber music groups. Last October he performed with the famous Jack Quartet. He is a member of Khemia Ensemble, with this group he is going on a tour to South America, where he will be performing, giving master classes and lectures in Colombia and Argentina.
Since 2012 he is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Iowa, under orientation of Dr. Maurita Murphy Marx. Thiago is honored to be the recipient of the prestigious “Iowa Performance Fellowship” granted by the Graduate College of the University of Iowa.


Violinist Andrew Uhe has performed as concerto soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, and recitalist in the Midwest and abroad concertizing in South America and Europe. His primary teachers were Arianna Bronne, Marjorie Bagley, and Katie Wolfe. He has also studied with Dylana Jensen, Glenn Dicterow, Stanley Ritchie, and Marilyn MacDonald. His chamber music coaches include members of the Perugino, Arcata, and Maia string quartets. Mr. Uhe maintains an avid interest in period-sensitive performance and cultivates a knowledge of historically-informed performance practices of Baroque, early-Romantic, and post-Modern repertoires. Andrew has taught actively for over a decade including teaching positions at Ohio University, the University of Iowa, and the Marion Music Academy. He currently teaches upper strings at Laredo Community College.
