ABOUT THE FEATURED SOLOISTS
Dr. Melissa Melendez
A native of Venezuela, Dr. Melendez started her musical career in 'El Sistema' and in the prestigious Emil Friedman School in Caracas. She holds a Bachelor degree from “Louisiana State University”, a Master degree from “The Cleveland Institute of Music”, and an Artist Diploma from “Duquesne University.”
While completing her Doctoral degree in 2006, Ms. Melendez played for three seasons as a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and was a winner of the President’s Concert Competition 2004 held at the University of Arizona. In 2012, Ms. Melendez played in Carnegie Hall as guest artist of Draganov and Friends; and on April of the same year, Ms. Melendez premiered Gonzalo Castellanos-Yumar Concerto for Viola hand Orchestra with the Carabobo Symphony in Venezuela. Currently, Dr. Melissa Melendez is the Principal Violist of the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra, the Principal Violist of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Assistant Principal Violist of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, and member of the Latin American Philharmonic. She is also the Director of the Suzuki Program in the Schools at the Early Childhood Development Center located in the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and the Assistant Conductor of the Corpus Christi Area Youth Orchestra. Melendez is the co-founder and artistic director of the Hispanic Heritage Concert Series which is held during the Hispanic Month Celebration in Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Dr. Jose Flores
Dr. Flores has performed as a violin soloist and a chamber musician in New York, Texas, Arizona and Pennsylvania. He did his Carnegie Hall debut in 2012 as a guest artist for the concert Draganov and His international career expands to countries such as South Korea, Italy, Germany, Mexico and Venezuela. Flores has been a professor of violin and viola at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi since 2006 and director of orchestral studies since 2012. He has taught at the Academia Latino Americana de Violin (Latin-American Violin Academy) where he is permanent guest faculty. He is also faculty at Youth Classics Master classes in Europe where he teaches violin, viola, and chamber music (www.youth-classics.com)
Dr. Flores is one of the pioneers of the Venezuelan Orchestra system known worldwide as “El Sistema” (The System). He joined this program in 1978. His bachelor's and master's degrees are from the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York. He obtained a Doctorate in Musical Arts degree from the University of Arizona in 2006. He is members of the Corpus Christi Symphony, principal second violinist with the Victoria Symphony and Concertmaster with the Kingsville Symphony. He has also served as concertmaster for the Victoria Symphony.
Dr. Flores is the conductor and musical director of the Corpus Christi Area Youth Orchestra, and institution associated with the Corpus Christi Symphony.

Andrew Uhe
Mr. Uhe has performed as concerto soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, and recitalist in the Midwest and abroad concertizing in South America and Europe. His primary teachers were Arianna Bronne, Marjorie Bagley, and Katie Wolfe. He has also studied with Dylana Jensen, Glenn Dicterow, Stanley Ritchie, and Marilyn MacDonald. His chamber music coaches include members of the Perugino, Arcata, and Maia string quartets. Mr. Uhe maintains an avid interest in period-sensitive performance and cultivates a knowledge of historically-informed performance practices of Baroque, early-Romantic, and post-Modern repertoires. Andrew has taught actively for over a decade including teaching positions at Ohio University, the University of Iowa, and the Marion Music Academy. He currently teaches upper strings at Laredo Community College.

Melissa S. Hinojosa is a Laredo flutist, having received a Master of Music Performance degree in 2001 from the University of Texas at Austin School of Music. She is the Director of Woodwind Studies for the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts in the Laredo Independent School District and an Adjunct Flute Instructor at Laredo Community College. She is principle flutist of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, music director for the St. Patrick’s Children’s Choir, and enjoys spending time with her husband, Luis, and her two daughters Carolina and Mireya.
